A Chair to Your Job Or an Application Essay?
A Chair to Your Job Or an Application Essay?Have you ever been to an event where a chair was given to you, but instead of leaving the chair and giving you a card to thank you for coming, they gave you an application essay? If so, how did it make you feel? How did the person know to write this for you?Well, the application essay is a one way ticket to failure. At least in life. We are all trying to land that job or get a promotion, right? It is not always easy, but we want to make it easier. When you read the application essay, it is impossible to know how your turn will come up. You can't take it personally, because what they wrote doesn't reflect who you are or how you feel about things. It is unfair and everyone has good reasons to write such a thing.I used to read them when I was applying for jobs that I thought I deserved. I found it very intimidating to think about getting one of those no's in the beginning, but as I put more effort into the task of preparing myself I started to enjoy it. It is fun to be the one asking questions about a topic and giving the employers a chance to ask you about yourself. It also allows you to get on the front of the present company list. I have been in a situation where I was in a position where I had to write an application essay. In fact, I had several interview requests in the first few days after I sent my application. It made me feel really good when the company that called me asked me if I wanted to do an interview.I do understand though that there are many who do not like the application essay. Those who are reading this are probably very proud of their application and their interview experience. They probably do not like the fact that they are going to be dealing with this type of situation for most of their working career. It seems that there are some benefits to applying for the same job over again. For some it is a huge benefit because it gives them a chance to meet more people and learn more about the company and wh at they do. I think though that for others it may make them nervous or have them wondering how it is going to end.All in all, I don't have any hard feelings about it, just that I would much rather be dealing with someone else's opinion than mine. There are times when a company will hand you an award and the best way to handle that situation is to not listen to them. Then you can look back and be proud of your accomplishment.
